Prone To Wander
The reason I named my blog "Prone to Wander" because it has a play on two different meanings. If you know me, you know I love to travel. I love to experience different cultures, foods, and getting meet people who are different from myself. When God commanded his disciples to "go into all the world" I took that literally even though it doesn't mean that all disciples need to cross cultural barriers. We just need to go wherever there are people. I love "wandering" and exploring different places.
However, it is also an excerpt from one of my favorite hymns "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing".
"Prone to wander, Lord I feel it Prone to leave the God I love Here's my heart, oh take and seal it Seal it for Thy courts above"
Even as a disciple of Jesus, sometimes my eyes wander away from him. I get distracted by my own passions and desires and allow idols to take the place of his leadership in my life. That's why I sing this song as a prayer that God would keep my heart safe with Him and always bring me back to him when I wander away.
"I'm not a lost sheep, I just feel alone in the flock." - Benjamin Hastings, Faith Is
Lately, I feel like I've been wandering from God. Life has been lonely and I've been trying to fill it with things. They are not necessarily bad in and of themselves, but nothing can take the place of God. If it does, then it's an idol and will soon turn out to be fruitless. Lord, will you lead me back to you? Will you make me lie down in green pastures again? I've been trying to do it on my own, but I can't. I need you. In Jesus name, amen.
